SlickLogin join Google: replace passwords with sounds

SlickLogin joins Google

Google very soon replace passwords with sounds after acquiring Israeli startup and verification app SlickLogin. The app works by listening to unique 'songs' generated when people log in to their online accounts on computers and laptops.

How the app works:

Users can click a SlickLogin button on websites to generate a unique ‘song’.The song is played through the speakers of a computer or laptop. The SlickLogin app then listens to this song and verifies the user’s identity. This song is inaudible to human ears, and can only be picked up by the phone's built-in microphone. It can be used to replace passwords, or as part of a two-step authentication process.SlickLogin announced the acquisition on its website but did not disclose how much the deal was worth.

Google may be looking to add the SlickLogin technology to future versions of its Android software, for example.Google already lets its users enable two-step verification for their online accounts, and offers Face Unlock on Android. With Face Unlock, Android users can use their face to unlock their smartphone or tablet, in place of a PIN or a pattern.

Google Hacking contest

Search engine giant Google will offer $2.7 million to researchers who can hack its browser-based operating system Chrome OS as part of its Pwnium hacking contest to be held in March this year.

This year, Pwnium 4, will be hosted in March at the CanSecWest security conference in Vancouver, Canada.

Google will also pay $150,000 for providing an exploit to be able to persistently compromise an HP or Acer Chromebook, ie hacking the device to retain control even after a reboot.

The earlier editions of Pwnium competitions focussed on Intel-based Chrome OS devices, but this year Google will allow researchers to also choose from ARM-based Chromebook, the HP Chromebook 11 (Wi-Fi) and the Acer C720 Chromebook (2GB Wi-Fi) based on Intel's Haswell microarchitecture.

Google's search filter now change dynamically according your quries

Google search filter

Google recently changed the top menu on its search result pages so that it will dynamically adjust based on the topic of your current query, the company tells us.
The “More” drop-down menu where options like “Blogs,” “Discussions,” “Patents,” and others were once found, has been replaced by a truncated list of search filters. Meanwhile, the bar at the top that lets you filter by “Web,” “News,” “Images,” “Books,” “Maps,” etc., will also now update based on your queries.
This is a minor, but still notable, change impacting Google users who may have previously relied on that “More” menu to better filter their search results. “Patents,” for example, was especially useful for doing research, and it’s gone – even when your query contains the keyword “patent!”

That “More” menu no longer has an extensive list of filters, only four. Depending on the search, this could include verticals like “Maps,” “Shopping,” “Books,” “Applications,” “Videos,” or “Flights,” for instance. Meanwhile, the main menu will always be led by “Web” in the first spot, but the other options will rearrange themselves as need be.

Gmail about to get less private with its new update

Update that allows people to send you emails without having your address

Users of Google's web-based email service Gmail will get messages from total strangers following a system update which allows people to send them emails without needing their address.
The change, announced on yesterday, is designed to integrate Gmail with Google+, the firm's two-and-a-half-year old social network that has 540 million active users.

Currently anyone signing up for a Gmail account is automatically given a Google+ account too.
Google said the new feature will make it easier for people who use both services to communicate with their friends.

Google said that users who did not wish to receive email messages from other people on Google+ could switch the settings so that they receive messages only from people they have added to their networks of friends or from no one at all.

Google said the new feature would not expose the email addresses of any Google+ users to strangers.
Emails from strangers on Google+ will be routed to a special section within the recipients mailbox that is separate from messages from friends and other contacts.

Firefox Vs. Chrome

Google Chrome for a long time is king of web browsers. It's faster in terms of JavaScript performance than any other browser on the market. Chrome browser always scored highest in HTML5  test. But for the past years, Mozilla update Firefox in such a manner that it comes out to challenge Chrome. But still Firefox not beating Chrome in HTML5 test. In some regard, Mozilla passed by Chrome and there are no signs that Mozilla will slow down anytime soon.

A test has been created to test a browser's MathML support.  MathML, the Mathematical Markup Language, Its main objective  is to provide mathematicians with the means to use math expressions on the Internet.

The test is, the elements are drawn on the screen and a smiley face is displayed if the web browser supports all the web technologies used to draw it.

The first of the major web browsers to do is the latest Nightly version of the Firefox web browser. Other browsers display all kinds of error messages at the time of writing, below is Google Chrome Canary's rendering of the page:

The possible reason of why chrome fails is that  the company removed features that it did not plan on supporting the short term from the browser after they have forked WebKit and decided to work on Blink.
